Mom's sugar cookies

Butter, room temperature
1 cup
1 cup +
2 tablespoons
Egg, room temperature
1 tablespoon
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Flour, all-purpose
2 ¾ cups
Baking powder
1 teaspoon
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 
  2. Cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat. 
  3. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla. 
  4. Combine flour and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture.
  5. Make balls from the dough, using a soup spoon to measure.
  6. Flatten the dough balls with a glass bottom that has been coated with sugar (2 tablespoons in a bowl).
    Note: Press the glass into the dough initially so that the sugar sticks to the bottom of the glass.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
